Closed, (2023, Dari with English subtitles) is a documentary that explores the lives of marginalised women in Iran, specifically in Bandar Abbas and Hormuz Island. Through interviews with numerous women in two areas of rural Iran, the filmmaker reveals vast differences among the women about the importance of virginity before marriage, as well as how they might react should they learn one of their own daughters was not a virgin when she marries.

Kochkashi (meaning “Moving”) follows Nazila’s reflective and emotional journey.

“The Taliban captured Kabul in September 1996, consolidating power across Afghanistan. Schools were closed for girls, and strict restrictions were imposed on daily life. Armed conflicts and violence forced countless families to flee their homes. A year later, in 1997, war reached Parwan province, where my parents were living. While my family was fleeing to Iran, I was born in an unknown place along the way. My name is Nazila.
